Can someone please help to explain the solution for Question 5 (found in the Maths Masters Series Textbook, Chapter 4 Geometry, Pages GM-133)?
Thank you!
First draw it:

We are told that the diagonal is 5 which, from the image, is clearly greater that the diameter of the circle. Just from the image, let's give a reasonable approximation that the diameter is around 4 units. That means the radius is 2, and using pi r^2, we have 4 pi.
Answer choices:
A 3 1/8 pi
B 12.5 pi
C 1.5 pi
D 6.3 pi (remember: this would only be possible if the diameter of the circle was longer than the diagonal which is impossible because the circle is inside of the square!)
The answer is clearly A.
