Next: Here is how you would really solve it if it was on the exam (because, as is usually the case, the answer choices are not very close to each other)...

We are told that the diagonal is 5 which, from the image, is clearly greater that the diameter of the circle. Just from the image, let's give a reasonable approximation that the diameter is around 4 units. That means the radius is 2, and using pi r^2, we have 4 pi.

Answer choices:

A 3 1/8 pi

B 12.5 pi

C 1.5 pi

D 6.3 pi (remember: this would only be possible if the diameter of the circle was longer than the diagonal which is impossible because the circle is inside of the square!)

The answer is clearly A.
