Hi there, I was wondering if any could provide a more detailed response for question 12 'from the passage, we might assume that in 1946, the Viet Minh were: A, B, C, D. The book similar states the answer but doesn't say how you were meant to figure it out. Any help appreciated - thanks

"In December 1946, full-scale war broke out between French soldiers and Viet Minh forces. The people tended to support the Viet Minh. "

Implication: "Viet" refers to Vietnamese but we don't yet know if it is North or South or rebels. But since they are fighting the French, we know they cannot be "French-supporting" which is answer choice D. Also, the idea that the "Viet Minh" were supported by the "people" does NOT imply North nor South, but it seems quite general as an expression.

More importantly...

Here is the 3rd sentence in the passage which immediately follows the 2 sentences quoted above: "Communist countries aided the rebels, ..."

Who are the rebels that were aided? Given the first 2 sentences, this must refer to the Viet Minh. And thus, answer choice B is the best answer based on the information provided: Vietnamese rebels.
