Question: The opening line of the novel suggests that
Opening line: 'BUT old Mrs Goodman did die at last'.

The answer is D - It seemed as though Mrs Goodman would never die.

Can somebody please explain why is that the right answer?
I barely understand because of the use of 'at last', which connotes as in summary would be a certain way, but can somebody expand on the rationale?
