U.K.'s Medical Schools

There are 31 undergraduate medical schools in the UK. The UKCAT is currently used by 26 of the 31 institutions and there are a handful that will accept either the BMAT or GAMSAT (graduate entry). The following institutions accept the GAMSAT.

Average GPA: Applicants should already hold or be expected to graduate with an upper second or first class honours degree in any subject. Additionally, applicants must have obtained GCSE English and Mathematics at grade C or above (or equivalent), and preferably some GCSE or post-GCSE experience in either Biology or Chemistry is desirable, but not essential.

Average GPA: The Graduate Entry Programme is open to UK graduates in any discipline who have obtained - or are predicted to obtain - a minimum of upper second-class honours (2i) and who have obtained a satisfactory score in GAMSAT.
GAMSAT: In 2011 students must offer an overall weighted score of >58 with a section III score of >55 supported by a score of 50 or more in all other sections. Alternatively, an overall weighted score of >55, with a section III score of >58 and 50 or more in all other sections is acceptable.

In addition to the academic requirements, applicants must also meet a number of non-academic requirements including a satisfactory Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) Enhanced Disclosure, vetting by the Independent Safeguard Authority and a satisfactory health check which will involve screening for Hepatitis B, C and HIV. Students are also expected to sign the Medical School Student Agreement.
